Premier League: Burnley's Danny Ings remains grounded despite fine form

Burnley striker Danny Ings is not getting carried away by talk of an England call-up.

Ings has been tipped for a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad after enjoying one of the best weeks of his career.

The 22-year-old scored twice for England Under-21s as they beat Portugal at Turf Moor during the international break, and then added two more goals in as many minutes in the Clarets' 2-1 win over Stoke on Saturday.

It would mean everything to me and my family but it's all about producing for Burnley, working hard.

The four goals have put last season's Sky Bet Championship player of the year back into the spotlight after a quiet start to life in the Premier League.

His first nine matches in the top flight yielded only one goal in a losing cause against Everton and a hamstring injury saw him sidelined for a month.

"It's been a great couple of weeks for me personally, scoring twice for the Under-21s against Portugal and then bringing that form back to Burnley, scoring two more and getting a win," he said at the launch of the Danny Ings Disability Project.

"To be fair, it's felt like it was a long time coming. I've had so many opportunities and gone close but it just wasn't happening, so I kept at it, worked hard and got my goals.

"I've been waiting from the start of the season for something to drop for me, so for two to come close together felt fantastic."

Dream

Speaking about the possibility of an England call-up, Ings added: "It would be a dream come true but I would never expect something like that or take it for granted.

"It's down to Roy Hodgson and the people around him. It would mean everything to me and my family but it's all about producing for Burnley, working hard.

"As long as I can keep doing that and keep my club form going I'll be happy."
