Jason Shackell said Burnley would head into the international break with renewed confidence having finally claimed their first Premier League win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Hull.

Ashley Barnes headed home early in the second half to reward Burnley's dominance and although they remain rooted to the foot of the table, Shackell believes they take great heart from the win heading towards the busy festive period.

"It’s a huge weight lifted," he said. "Obviously everybody has been talking about it for the last few weeks so it’s nice to sort of get that monkey off our backs and get the three points.

"Winning automatically breeds confidence and that can only be a good thing for us.

"It’s a nice time for a little break to come now. We can regroup. We’ve left it on a good note and get ready to go again after.

"I think it’s come at the perfect time for us. We can get together rebuild.

"It’s going to be a nice place to be for the next couple of weeks and then come back and we’ve got a good run of games after."

Asked if he thinks Burnley can stay up, he added: "One hundred percent. We think we are good enough to stay in the league. We just need to make sure we keep putting in good performances and keep getting good results."
