Sean Dyche believed Burnley fully deserved their first win back in the Premier League after a 1-0 victory over Hull City at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Dyche brought Ashley Barnes into the side in the one change to his starting line-up from last Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Arsenal and the striker rewarded his manager’s faith, heading home the winner on 50 minutes from Keiran Trippier’s cross.
It’s one win, we need a lot more than one win but you’ve got to start somewhere and it’s good to start today.
The bottom of the table Clarets dominated from the off and the win – at the 11th time of asking - sees them move to within two points from safety.
A delighted Dyche told Sky Sports: “It feels great – it’s great for myself, the staff, the players and the town.
"You know, we’ve been waiting for that win, we knew that it would come, despite others questioning whether it would.
"But we’re happy with the win, we’re happy with the performance. I think we’ve given good performances this season in a lot of the games, hasn’t gone our way and today overall, we certainly deserved it and first half we could have been two to the good I felt.
"So overall, as I suggest, a good win and a good day for us.”
Despite the win, Dyche is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, believing there is a long way to go.
He added: "We made our luck last year and it’s important we do that this year.
"(It's an) unforgiving league make no mistake, we’ve learnt that already.
"We had a chat with the players in the week, I believe they are learning, I believe they are improving.
"But I must make it clear, we are well aware you know it’s just one win - the story has been a big one from outside of us, all this hoo-ha about will they win, what game will it come on, how many number of games it takes etc etc - it’s one win, we need a lot more than one win but you’ve got to start somewhere and it’s good to start today."
