Kieran Trippier is determined to show Manchester City what they are missing as he steps up into the Premier League with Burnley.

The highly-rated full-back is a product of City's academy system, but left the Etihad Stadium in 2012 after failing to make a competitive senior appearance.

A loan move to Burnley eventually led to a permanent switch and the opportunity to start over in the Championship.

It did not take long for Trippier’s potential to be unlocked and now, at 23 years of age, he has made it to the big time and cannot wait to mix it with English football's elite.

I want to show people what I can do and that I can cope with the pressure. I think, more than ever, that I am ready to make the step up.

He said on his career path, which has also included two loan spells at Barnsley: "It was devastating for me to leave Manchester City as I was there from such a young age.

"It was so hard to break through as all the money came in. They started buying lots of players and I was going down the pecking order.

"I always believed I could break into the Premier League with City.

"For a youngster, it was really hard to take. I was doing well in training and the reserves, but did not get the nod. That's when I realised I needed to move on."

On his hopes for the season ahead, Trippier added: "It's not just Manchester City that I want to prove it to, it is everybody in the Premier League.

"I want to show people what I can do and that I can cope with the pressure. I think, more than ever, that I am ready to make the step up.

"I just cannot wait to get the season underway against Chelsea."
