Attacker wants to show fans what he can do

Michael Kightly is hopeful he will be given the opportunity to prove himself as an attacking force at Stoke this season. The former Wolves winger joined the Potters outfit in the summer, and he has since been handed a more defensive role by manager Tony Pulis. City remain unbeaten after drawing their opening four games of the Premier League season, but now Kightly is keen to show the Britannia fans what he can do going forward. The 26-year-old has called on Pulis to let him loose when they face the so-called lesser teams in the division.

Tough start

"I am having to play a bit more defensive than I would like," he said, "but we have had a tough start with our games and sometimes you have to do that for the team. "We've played top sides at home and played at Wigan where they play a different system. "Hopefully, against the so-called lesser teams at home we can be a bit more free-flowing and attacking. "When the big clubs come, you know you aren't going to have as much possession and their full-backs play advanced, so if you don't track them back they will punish you. "You are thinking about their full-back and stopping him scoring rather than thinking of getting past him to create a goal."
