Potters boss giving Poland international Boenisch a pre-season trial

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has confirmed he is close to signing Michael Kightly and is giving Sebastian Boenisch a trial. Sky Sports sources last Thursday revealed the Britannia Stadium boss had failed in an initial bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Kightly. But Pulis is optimistic Kightly, who is entering the final year of his contract at relegated Wolves, will be available for Tuesday night's pre-season friendly at Yeovil Town. "I'm hoping it will be done and if it is, we can get him down to play some part at Yeovil," the Stoke boss said in The Sentinel. "I think he can score goals. It's not just his ability to go past people and provide."

Great addition

Meanwhile, Pulis is trialling defender Boenisch, who is a free agent after his contract expired at Werder Bremen, and the Poland international featured against Torquay on Monday night and will also be involved in the trip to Yeovil. "He played in all of Poland's games at Euro 2012," said Pulis. "We said we would bring him down and play him in the two games to have a look. "I don't think he's done much training since the Euros and I think that showed." Pulis is also waiting to learn whether versatile American defender Geoff Cameron will be granted a work permit at a hearing on Wednesday to complete his arrival. "He's got a great presence, good legs and he's a passer of the ball. He will be a great addition," said Pulis.
