Winger hopes squad stays intact if Wolves go down

Wolves winger Michael Kightly admits there are 'a million and one reasons' why his side are staring Premier League relegation in the face this season. But the 26-year-old hopes the majority of the squad will remain together to try and gain promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt if they go down. Terry Connor's side are nine points adrift of safety with just five games remaining after Wednesday night's 3-0 defeat at home to Arsenal and wins for Wigan and QPR, while they also have an inferior goal difference to all the teams above them.

Reasons

Kightly said: "We just haven't been good enough this season. There are a million and one reasons probably why we haven't been good enough. "It is a number of things. It is not for me to say. But, as a team and as a club, we haven't been good enough this year and we are all gutted about that." Wolves have not kept a clean sheet for 30 games, have lost their last seven matches and suffered a club record eight successive home defeats. Since the halcyon days of August, when they collected seven points from the first three games, Wolves have amassed just 15 from a possible 90. Kightly said: "I just hope most of (the) lads stay together if (we) go down and try and get Wolves back up. "Of course, it is up to the club who they want to bring in and whether they make changes or not. "But we've got a good bunch of lads here and we've shown we can do it before in the Championship by getting promoted. "We are realists about our situation but, if we do go down, hopefully we can bounce back up." Wolves could be relegated by the time they face Manchester City on Sunday week if results go against them but Kightly insists they will continue to give their all until the end.
Honest
He said: "Whether we are down or not, we will give it 110 per cent to the last day even if we are mathematically not able to get out of it. "That is the least we can do. We've got a good set of lads and staff here and we are all an honest bunch and no-one is going to be throwing the towel in. "Each one of us will be making sure of that so that won't be happening."
