New Barnsley manager Keith Hill is hoping to keep captain Jason Shackell after the club rejected two offers from Derby County.
Defender Shackell has already been the subject of an approach from Championship rivals Derby and there has also been talk of interest from Hull in the former Wolves man.
Hill, who replaced Mark Robins as Oakwell boss this week, wants to retain the services of the 27-year-old and is hoping that discussions with the centre-half can persuade him to stay.
"It's always your intention to keep your best players," the Tykes chief told

"I would love to retain him but it can get very political and we've got to look at from a footballing perspective.
"We've got to look at from a club perspective and we've got to also look at from the player's perspective as well.
"We're good in discussions (Hill and assistant manager David Flitcroft) and it's my intention to retain him."
Barnsley general manager Don Rowing added: "We've had two offers from Derby County and we've refused both offers.
"The valuation placed by them is ridiculous really, bearing in mind what we paid for him.
"We weren't going to do anything anyway until we'd spoken with the new manager and, even then, we're not going to let him go for a song, irrespective
of whether he wants to go or otherwise.
"But we've got two years left on his contract and, hopefully, he'll be back with us. I understand there are other clubs who may want to join the race for him."
