Stanley keen on Long-er loan

Image: Long (back): Could stay on at Stanley

Assistant boss Jimmy Bell has confirmed Accrington want to keep Burnley's Kevin Long on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old defender has made 11 appearances for Stanley since originally joining on-loan from the Clarets in October, impressing despite being dismissed for a professional foul just 18 minutes into his debut against Rotherham. However, his stay at the Crown Ground expired following Saturday's 1-0 home win over Bury and due to Football League regulations he cannot return on a short-term loan, he can only come back for the remainder of the campaign with no recall clause. Bell told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We would like to keep him, he has been smashing for us. He took three or four games to get the pace of it but he's come on leaps and bounds. "We're still waiting on whether we can keep him until the end of the season or whether he has to go back. That's the end of his three months now."
