Defender hopes manager will stay

Burnley defender Michael Duff hopes Brian Laws will remain in charge at Turf Moor following the club's relegation from the Premier League. The Clarets have suffered 14 defeats in 17 games since Laws took the reins in January and will be back in the Championship next season. Laws has stated that he wants to stay and will meet with chairman Barry Kilby in the summer to discuss his future. Duff does not believe there should be a change of manager and has backed Laws to lead Burnley to future success. Asked if he viewed Laws as the man to take Burnley forward, Duff said: "I think so. The chairman has come out and backed the manager after the game. "The players will play for whoever is the manager, but I think a lot has been made of it this year and we have been easy targets. "The gaffer is an easy target because we were on that bad run - it is easy for people to take a pop. "But that is football and I'm sure everybody at the club has experienced it before. "That's what happens, but hopefully we can build next year with the gaffer in charge."

Blake future

The squad could now be set for an overhaul and one player who feels he might have to move on is striker Robbie Blake. Blake has become exasperated with his lack of opportunities and, with a contract that is set to expire in the summer, he is keeping his options open. "I need to play games and where I'm at, I'm not playing games at the moment," he said. "It's deeply frustrating for me as a person, knowing that I want to play more games and feeling I'm good enough to play more games and be in the side. "You ask any player and they will say they want to be in the side, and it has been sheer frustration for me. "Based on that, it's probably looking bleak for me to be at the football club next season." Blake added: "The club has been talking with me, but it's not an easy decision to make. I love Burnley football club - the fans are great, the team spirit is fantastic and so is the club as a unit. "It will purely be a footballing decision that I leave the football club."
