The Canaries took advantage of some suicidal defending from The Clarets, and despite goals from Neil Wood, David May and Robbie Blake, picked up a fine win with braces from Darren Huckerby and Mathias Svensson and one for Leon McKenzie.
It was Burnley who opened the scoring after seven minutes when Wood had new England call-up Rob Green picking the ball out of the back of his net when his free-kick wrong-footed the goalkeeper.
However, Svensson levelled things up with a mis-hit shot that went through May's legs and deceived Brian Jensen.
Svensson then had a goal disallowed before May put The Clarets back ahead, turning home a Blake corner at the far post.
However, terrible defending allowed Norwich to level for the second time, when Huckerby cantered through and rounded Jensen before slotting into the net.
Blake scored his 21st goal of the season before half time, latching onto a Glen Little flick to blast home with aplomb.
The second half underlined Norwich's Premiership credentials - with three goals leaving the home crowd apoplectic at the kamikaze defending.
McKenzie headed home a Huckerby free-kick when he evaded his marker from the set piece and Svensson was also left unmarked to finally give The Canaries the lead for the first time in the match.
With heads dropping in the Burnley side, Norwich wrapped up the scoring when Huckerby smashed home from close range to send Norwich clear at the top and The Clarets back into the relegation quagmire.
