BOURNEMOUTH captain Ian Cox has signed for Second Division rivals Burnley in a £500,000 move to Turf Moor.

The 28-year-old defender has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Burnley after making 207 appearances and scoring 17 goals for the Cherries.

The former Crystal Palace player should make his debut in Saturday`s League game against Bristol Rovers at Turf Moor.

Clarets manager Stan Ternent could not hide his delight at signing the Trinidad and Tobagan international, saying: "He is a top quality player and a great acquisition to the squad.

"When quality players become available we are always interested and the chairman and the Board have given me the opportunity to sign Ian."

Cox admitted that he is looking forward to the promotion challenge which lies ahead. "Burnley are a great club," he said. "You can see why coming to Turf Moor that this place has massive potential. I am delighted to be joining a progressive club."

Burnley chairman Barry Kilby added: "Ian is a great addition and a great acquisition to the squad and I see his signing as a shrewd investment for the future."

The represents a great profit for cash-strapped Bournemouth, who signed Cox on a free transfer from Palace just under four years ago.
