Royals striker delighted club kept hold of boss
Reading striker Noel Hunt has hailed Brian McDermott for the job he has done in leading the club back into the Premier League.
McDermott inspired Reading to the Championship title and the promised land of the Premier League just 12 months after their agonising play-off final defeat by Swansea.
The Royals produced a late run to pip Southampton to the title and Hunt believes McDermott deserves all the praise for masterminding their superb form after a slow start to the season.
"It is really, really good to see good people have success in the game and he is one of them," Hunt told
skysports.com.
"He is honest and he keeps things simple.
"A famous fella once said football is a simple game complicated by idiots and I am a firm believer in that so for me he keeps it simple.
"His qualities are right he wants us all working hard throughout the game and if you give 100 per cent Brian is always pretty happy with you.
"It becomes a standard mark that you give nothing but 100 per cent for him and that's what the boys do we give everything we can for the manager and he appreciates that after every game.
"When we need a kick up the backside he gives us one and when credit is due he dishes it out so he has got a great mix there and for me it he has got it spot-on this season."
Stay
McDermott was subject of an approach from Wolves following the sacking of Mick McCarthy in February and Hunt admits the whole squad were delighted Reading were able to keep hold of the manager
"Yeah we were delighted he stayed," added Hunt.
"He is such a great guy, such an honest guy so the way the team performs and the way the club is and the run we have been on is down to how Brian asserts himself on and off the field so we are delighted he stayed. Obviously he has been fantastic for this club since he has come in.
"He's a fantastic manager, he knows the leagues inside out from the Premier League to League Two to the SPL to most places in Europe - a team or player and he will know about it.
"His knowledge of football is so vast it's impressive and it came as no surprise that other clubs were looking to get Brian, but we are delighted he stayed at Reading and we can look forward to next season in the Premier League."
