Watford manager Malky Mackay insists goalkeeper Scott Loach is good enough to play in the Premier League, but hopes to keep him at Vicarage Road for a while longer.
Loach was called up to the England senior squad as back-up for Joe Hart for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland earlier this month after Scott Carson withdrew following a family bereavement.
The 22-year-old has admitted that, in order to secure a regular place in Fabio Capello's plans, he will eventually have to move to the top flight.
Mackay has told
skysports.com that he believes Loach will wear the No.1 jersey for England one day, but feels there is no rush for the keeper to move on.
Fantastic prospect
"He is a fantastic prospect and he is someone that has worked on his game a lot over the last few years," said Mackay.
"I've known Scott since he came here as a 17-year-old and he has worked very hard to get where he is at the moment.
"I've got no doubt that he will end up in the Premier League with a team in the future and the recognition he has had with the international side has further enhanced his reputation.
"He is the No.1 Under 21 keeper in this country and has won many caps for them, plus the fact that Fabio Capello opted to call him up when Scott Carson had to withdraw from the squad speaks volumes of both Scott and Watford Football Club.
"Scott has had to put up with a lot of stories and rumours going about over the summer, but thankfully come the end of August we still had him here and I'm delighted to have him in my squad.
"He is going to get more Championship experience with us before he does go on and make that jump to the Premier League, but I have no doubt that he will make that jump one day."
