Ipswich manager Jim Magilton was relieved to finally put an end to a five-match losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers.Alan Lee and Jon Walters scored for Town to put them two up before substitute Paul Furlong pulled one back for QPR to make the last few minutes nervous for Ipswich.
Magilton's side hung on however to secure all three points which moves them further away from the relegation fight.
He said: "Of course it's a relief but I was confident going into the game because we have trained well all week. The players were desperate for a result.
"Rangers started brightly but then we gained a bit of composure and added a bit of quality to our play.
"I was delighted for John Walters. He deserved his goal and took it very well.
"He is a workaholic in training and his work rate on the field is fantastic. He has a certain pedigree that his education in the game has given him.
"Today it was a case of keeping things simple. Confidence comes and goes but you must always maintain a belief in yourself. We've won a game of football and now we must crack on."
John Gregory was frustrated by the manner of the defeat insisting some of his players did not play with pride.
"We have played our last two matches with loads of passion, pride and enthusiasm but this time it was sadly lacking from one or two of our players.
"I am not too sure if some of them really appreciate the consequences of our situation.
"The opportunity for us was there to jump out of the bottom three. This was a game I though we had every chance to win."
Gregory was also unhappy Rangers did not get a penalty late on through Furlong.
"Paul Furlong was pulled back but I won't be speaking to the referee. It would be a waste of time.
"To be honest it was a bad day for us. We started well but didn't make use of our advantage in the opening 20 minutes."
