Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has confirmed his interest in Hibernian defender Steven Whittaker.
The Championship side have been strongly linked with a move for the 22-year-old.
Magilton has admitted he has been keeping tabs on the full-back and that the player has been recommended to him by former Hibs boss Tony Mowbray.
"We have watched Whittaker quite a few times and I like him a lot," said Magilton.
"I have also spoken to both Mogga (Mowbray) and Veno (Mark Venus) about him and they only have good things to say about him."
Whittaker has a contract with Hibs until 2011 and the Easter Road club are determined to keep hold of their best young players.
Meanwhile, Dean Bowditch has been forced to return to the club from his loan spell at Brighton as he recovers from injury.
Brighton are thought to be keen on keeping Bowditch at the club, but Magilton is unsure if he will return to The Seagulls once he regains his fitness.
"Dean is injured and will be here until we get him fit again," said Magilton. "Beyond that we will have to wait and see."
