United boss John Taylor is currently looking to bolster his strike-power, after the departure of top-scorer Dave Kitson to Reading.
The Third Division club have taken former Ipswich striker Matt Robinson on trial, along with Kevin Dixon, formerly of Everton. Both will appear for the reserves this week.
Both players are currently out of contract and having been informed that they are surplus to requirements at their respective clubs, are set to resurrect their careers in a lower division.
Robinson had a trial with Bournemouth last month and scored for their reserve side and Taylor is hopeful that the player can take his opportunity at Cambridge.
''He's coming to us on trial and if he does okay, we'll probably sign him on non-contract terms so he is able to play,'' Taylor told the Cambridge official website.
''He only lives down the road and he would give us another option if he does well.''
Right-sided forward Dixon arrives at The Abbey Stadium after being recommended to the club by a source at Everton.
''He was recommended to us by someone at Everton, so we're having a look at him,'' confirmed Taylor.
The final trialist at the club, who will train at Cambridge for a week with a view to loan deal, is Jermaine Easter.
The pacey 22-year-old striker is currently trying to establish himself at Hartlepool and would welcome the opportunity of first-team football.
