Canaries to look at Town teen

Ipswich Town teenager Matt Bloomfield will link up with the club's fierce rivals Norwich City for a trial next week.

Bloomfield has been informed by Town boss Joe Royle that he is free to leave Portman Road after failing to make the required impact at the club.

The midfielder spurned one opportunity to move on earlier this week when he rejected the chance of a loan stint at Boston United.

Instead, the 19-year-old will now train with Norwich next week in a bid to convince Nigel Worthington he is good enough to warrant a deal.

The England Under-19 international has made just one substitute appearance for Ipswich with Royle admitting Bloomfield needs to be playing.

"Matt needs first-team football at his age and making him available opens up opportunities for him," said Royle.

Earlier this year, Bloomfield was linked with a switch to Newcastle United but he will now showcase his talents at Carrow Road.
