Birmingham boss Chris Hughton insists that he is more than happy with his current squad.

Hughton feels he might be tempted into the loan market, but he does not appear in a massive rush to add numbers.

The Blues chief insists he is happy with how 'tight' his group of players are.

"I am conscious to say that we're not looking to bring a lot of players in," said Hughton.

"We have a tight squad. I prefer to keep it that way.

"The loan window opens in five days now and on any player that we have an interest in, the inquiries will be there, the contact will always be there.

"Of course it doesn't only work one way. Any inquiry we make there has to be an enthusiasm on the other side for somebody to want to come here and a desire to come here."

"We will continue to work hard," concluded Hughton. "It doesn't mean that any player has to come in next Wednesday.

"We will continue the dialogue, whether anything happens then or a week later. I will be one of numerous managers making the same phone calls.

"We need to make sure that anyone coming in, they would also be the right player for us.

"Certainly, it would be a maximum of three new players. Sometimes that can change, because in any period you can get those injuries. But no more than three.

"We are a tight unit, we have got a good spirit in that unit with real competition for games among the players and that's as important as anybody coming in."

Hughton confirmed that he did make an enquiry after Swansea forward Stephen Dobbie.

"He is one player we have made enquiries about. There are a lot of players we have made enquiries about," he said.

"If we are able to get certain players still, fantastic. But of course if not we move on elsewhere."
