Eagles seek midfield reinforcements

Ipswich Town are mulling over a £150,000 offer from Crystal Palace for midfielder Owen Garvan. Palace boss George Burley is believed to be keen on the Irishman and wants to bolster his midfield options prior to the start of the new season. But the financially-stricken Londoners are restricted as to how much they can offer for the 22-year-old, who is valued at £500,000 by Town manager Roy Keane. Keane made Garvan one of eight players available for transfer in the close season but is said to be holding out for a reasonable price on the captain of the Republic's Under-21 side. Palace's ability to finance the purchase of the Dubliner is believed to depend on the sale of star defender Nathanial Clyne to Premier League outfit Birmingham City.

Very keen

And Burley admits he is desperate to recruit Garvan, as well as bringing in further reinforcements before their campaign opener against Leicester on 7th August. The Eagles boss told the Evening Star: "Owen is one player we're very keen on. We have a number of offers in with clubs for players and loans. "We have a budget for wages and transfers and originally we thought we would stick to loans and free transfers, but certain players you need to pay for. "I'm hoping by next week we should have a few more in."
