Crystal Palace have been hit with the news defender Paddy McCarthy has been ruled out for three months.
The commanding centre-half has had to go under the surgeon's knife in a bid to rid himself of a long-term shoulder injury.
On Tuesday McCarthy had an operation on the shoulder which he first dislocated playing against Doncaster last year.
The 26-year-old has already had an operation on the joint but required further treatment after falling awkwardly during training, which will rule him out until March.
Palace boss Neil Warnock said: "It's a disappointment but he had to have it done."
