Crystal Palace's new midfielder Stuart Green was the subject of a bid from Northampton Town, but boss John Gorman remains hopeful.
The Cobblers missed out in their pursuit of the player from Hull City because of a deadline-day swoop by Eagles boss Peter Taylor.
Though disappointed that Green opted for the £75,000 switch to Selhurst Park to rejoin his former Tigers coach, Gorman has refused to give up on the 25-year-old for the future.
"We were close to bringing in Stuart from Hull but in the end he went to Crystal Palace," he explained.
"However, Peter Taylor is a good friend of mine so we'll just keep an eye on that one and if he is ever looking for a loan spell then maybe we can do something."
