Crystal Palace have offered Jay Bothroyd the chance to win a contract at Selhurst Park.

Bothroyd is currently a free agent after being released by Charlton Athletic following Iain Dowie's appointment at The Valley.

The former Arsenal trainee had only spent a season with The Addicks, scoring twice in 18 Premiership appearances, although only three were starts.

He is now on the lookout for a new club and Bothroyd has been invited to train with Palace during pre-season.

The Championship club are currently on tour in USA and the 24-year-old has linked up with the squad for the trip across the Atlantic.

During the 3-1 friendly win over Crystal Palace USA, Bothroyd featured up front without a number on his shirt.

Palace boss Peter Taylor has confirmed his intention to sign a new striker after seeing England international Andy Johnson move to Everton.
