Crystal Palace star Mikele Leigertwood has opened talks with the club about extending his contract.
The 23-year-old's current deal expires at the end of the season, but he is keen to prolong his stay at Selhurst Park.
Leigertwood has impressed in The Eagles' push for promotion this season and has reportedly attracted the interest of several Championship sides but, with Palace boss Iain Dowie also eager to tie up the deal, it looks as though the midfielder will soon be able to commit his long-term future to the club.
"Negotiations have started on the new contract and I'm very hopeful of staying," Leigertwood confirmed.
"I've enjoyed my time here. I've read a bit in the papers about other clubs being interested in me, but I don't know how true that is.
"Hopefully we can get something sorted - and the sooner the better."
