IPSWICH TOWN manager George Burley is reported to be ready to make a bid to Crystal Palace for young midfielder Hayden Mullins.

The highly-rated 21-year-old was one of the stars of the season for Palace last term and attracted the attentions of promoted Charlton Athletic, Newcastle United, Leicester City and West Brom.

The England Under-21 international's agent claimed towards the end of the season that it was likely that the player would not be with the cash-strapped club come August 12.

Town, who are looking to strengthen in preparation for a Premiership campaign, are believed to have targeted Mullins to strengthen their midfield and Burley is known to have transfer funds at his disposal.

Eagles manager Steve Coppell could be forced to reluctantly accept a bid of around £2.5 million for a player he is known to value much more highly.
