Sheridan frustrated by Pilgrims

Plymouth boss John Sheridan cut a frustrated figure after his side lost 2-0 at home to fellow play-off chasers Oxford.

Dave Kitson volleyed Oxford ahead in the 33rd minute after being teed up by Ryan Williams' first-time delivery before James Constable doubled their advantage with a brilliant rising 20-yard drive on the run on 63 minutes. Argyle's cause was not helped by the 49th-minute dismissal of defender Maxine Blanchard for a second yellow card. Sheridan fumed: "It was a very poor performance and we've done that a couple of times now when there is a big game and we are all waiting for a good performance and again we are really flat. "I've got no qualms about the result. They were better than us and every player in their team performed better than every player in my team. "In the first half that was the poorest we have played for a long time, possibly this season. "I can't put my finger on it and I wish I could. I just can't explain it and it wouldn't be so annoying if it was the first time this has happened but it isn't - we've done it before. "I've just seen the results and there was a great opportunity for us again to build on Tuesday night's win at Newport. "I think sometimes they just go out and don't really realise what we are playing for and what is at stake. I stick with the same team, put Lewis (Alessandra) up front and I told them all 'you have to be brave at home' and we weren't. "Oxford deservedly won the game because playing like that we deserved nothing."
