New Plymouth CEO Martyn Starnes is excited by the prospect of trying to restore the club to the glory days of Championship football.
Starnes started his new position on Monday having left the same role at Yeovil after almost six years with the Somerset outfit, culminating in May's promotion to the second tier having played League Two football as recently as 2005 and in the Conference just two years previous. The 58-year-old, also formerly chief executive at Swindon, will now look to repeat that success with the Pilgrims, who were an established Championship team themselves in 2010 before back-to-back relegations to League Two, where they have narrowly avoided dropping out of the Football League altogether. "Plymouth has a great catchment area, a big supporter base," Starnes told the club's official website. "I think it has got a wonderful future and I have been given the opportunity to be part of it. I am absolutely delighted to be here. "It is a fantastic club. I am aware, being a massive football fan generally, that Plymouth has had difficult times in recent years, going into administration. "Recovering from that, I recognise, is difficult and James (Brent, chairman) and the board of Plymouth have presented me a rather unique opportunity to help to revitalise the club and move it back into the division it should be playing in, ie the Championship, and to do it with financial viability, which I am used to doing at Yeovil."
