New Plymouth owner James Brent has backed manager Carl Fletcher after the Pilgrims were beaten 2-0 by non-league Stourbridge in the FA Cup.
Argyle were the victims of one of the biggest giant-killings in this year's competition on Tuesday night and currently sit bottom of npower League Two, but Brent is in no mood for a knee-jerk reaction to the situation in which his club currently finds itself. He said conversations with other Football League chairmen have convinced him loyalty and perseverance will ultimately prove beneficial to Plymouth, who have already parted with one manager - Peter Reid - this season. He told BBC Radio Devon: "I think what we need to do is to provide Carl with the support he needs to rebuild a team. It was always going to be a rebuilding exercise and that's what we are doing. "I've spoken to a lot of chairmen and a lot of board members who've got a lot of experience between them and the one piece of advice that is absolutely consistent is, when there is a problem the demand from the fans is to fire the manager. "Every single one of them tells you that that has cost them very dear in the past and it's not the right reaction to have."
