Johnson: Huddersfield target

Huddersfield hope to bring back Damien Johnson but accept Plymouth's financial situation will complicate any potential deal.

Town boss Lee Clark swooped to bring the 32-year-old former Blackburn, Birmingham and Northern Ireland midfielder in on a season-long loan last summer as Argyle ran into difficulties and were forced to take cost-cutting measures.

Johnson, who is under contract at Home Park until this time next year, proved an influential player before suffering a season-ending knee injury in December.

Huddersfield chief executive Nigel Clibbens told the Daily Examiner: "We have held initial talks with Plymouth and we are continuing to monitor Damien's situation.

"He did very well for us and is one of a number of names on our list of potential signings.

"However, the financial position Plymouth are in combined with the new salary cap will make it very difficult for any club to sign him."
