Algerian would be interested in playing at a higher level next season

Macclesfield Town's Hamza Bencherif has set his sights on playing at a higher level next season, if he gets the chance to do so. The Algerian has impressed for the Silkmen during the past season, netting 11 goals in a more advanced midfield role. However, with his contract set to expire this summer, the 23-year-old says he is more than happy to stay at Moss Rose should the opportunity to play at a higher level not arise. "I'm out of contract this summer and I'm just waiting to see what happens really because obviously I aspire to play at a higher level and test myself against better players," Bencherif told skysports.com.

Early days

"However, I really like Macclesfield as a club and a place, so I would have no qualms in staying there, but if the opportunity arose for me to play at a higher level it would be difficult to turn down. "It is early days so far and I've not heard anything so far, but basically I will review things when I get back off holiday. "Macclesfield offered me a new contract before I went away and it is there on the table for me to sign when I come back, so I've left things down to my agent till I get back to the UK really." A rollercoaster campaign saw the Silkmen flirt with both the play-offs and the relegation scrap at times, and the former Nottingham Forest youngster points to their sluggish Christmas period for their downfall. He added: "It was an up and down kind of season for us with a great run of form before Christmas and we were just outside the play-off places. "We needed a good festive period to be pushing for the top seven, but that good Christmas never happened. "After that the loss of Butch (Richard Butcher) and everything made it a difficult second half of the season for us."
