Midfielder pens one-year extension after successful campaign

Macclesfield Town boss Gary Simpson has retained the services of influential midfielder Hamza Bencherif for another season. The former Nottingham Forest youngster, who can also play in defence, became a pivotal part of the Silkmen side after arriving on a one-year deal last summer. After scoring five goals in 19 appearances in League Two, the 22-year-old had his season cut short by a broken ankle suffered against Rochdale in December. Bencherif was believed to be being tracked by a number of clubs, but he admits he owes the club for their faith in him and helping him towards a full recovery. "I'm really pleased to be signing up for another season here," he told the club's official website. "The club have been fantastic to me since my injury and looked after me. "I've enjoyed my time here so far but it's been a very frustrating few months for me, so I'm keen to get through the summer and come back to hit the ground running. "This season is over (for me) and I don't want to dwell on the games I've missed - but I want to play all the time next season." The Algerian Under 20 international admits the one-year contract was his preference while stressing his desire to progress towards a higher level. He added: "After this injury I want to see how I do on the leg and I'm currently ambitious and want to play at the highest level. But I'm not thinking about any move at the moment."
