Torquay boss Paul Buckle has revealed his delight after beating off competition to land striker Ashley Barnes.
The 20-year-old Plymouth forward has joined the League Two outfit on loan until the end of the season.
The Torquay boss has been monitoring Barnes since the player spent a short trial spell at Plainmoor two years ago and he is delighted to land his man.
With Scott Rendell ruled out by injury, his arrival is particularly timely as United bid to end a seven-match streak without a win.
Buckle said: "Ashley is an out-and-out centre-forward. He's strong, quick and can score goals. He's much needed help for our front line.
"(Plymouth head coach) Paul Mariner has been great to let him come to us.
"Ashley could have gone to a couple of other clubs but has chosen to come here - which is an added bonus."
