Defender keen to fight for place at Preston

Preston North End defender Neal Trotman has turned down the chance to join Millwall on loan. Lions boss Kenny Jackett is looking to improve his defensive options and had made an approach to bring Trotman to The Den. However, the 22-year-old has opted against a move to the League One club and is keen to fight for his place at Preston. "There was an enquiry from Millwall asking about taking Trots on loan," Preston boss Alan Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Post. "I spoke to him about it, as I always do with any player when I get an enquiry. "Trots told me he wanted to stay here and fight for a place in our team which is great. "We have got four centre-backs who are all fit at the moment, and the reason Trots wasn't on the bench on Saturday was that I didn't need two centre-backs as substitutes. "He won't always miss out. His fitness is fine now and he got through pre-season without any problems." Trotman has been restricted to just three first-team appearances for Preston since joining from Oldham in January 2008 and he finished last season on loan at Colchester United.
