Crewe Alexandra are ready to match Plymouth Argyle's offer for Cheltenham Town full-back Brian Wilson.

Cheltenham have put Wilson on the transfer list after the defender rejected an extension to his contract, which expires at the end of the season.

Fellow League One side Crewe have maintained a long-standing interest in the player and have put in an offer.

Plymouth are also keen on Wilson, with Crewe manager Dario Gradi looking to beat the Championship club to the right-back's signature.

"We have made a bid, but we've not quite got to the stage where they've accepted that offer," Gradi told The Sentinel.

"It shouldn't be a problem and we are prepared to match Plymouth's offer.

"The next step is for the boy to decide what he's doing.

"We are prepared to take him, but Cheltenham will talk to him and see if it is worth our while doing so."
