Centre back James McPake will remain at Livingston after his trial move to Plymouth Argyle was withdrawn.

Home Park boss Ian Holloway was keen on seeing the former striker with view to a possible January swoop for the 22-year-old.

McPake has helped Livi to the second best defensive record in the Scottish League Division One, conceding just five goals in eight games and scoring 14.

Pilgrims scout Gary Penrice recommended the defender, but Holloway has taken a philosophical approach to the subject after the cancellation of the week's trial which had been due to start on Monday.

"Apparently they've changed their minds," Holloway told the Plymouth website.

"I'll have to watch him, instead of having him down here, but that's football for you."

The Pilgrims currently lie in eighth in The Championship, but the ambitious Holloway hopes that the added strength at the back might help push his side into the promotion places.
