Plymouth Argyle manager Bobby Williamson is backing Republic of Ireland defender Graham Coughlan to shine on the international stage, should he be given a chance.

The 29-year-old Dublin-born star is as yet uncapped, however Williamson does not believe the stopper would let Brian Kerr down at the highest level.

Coughlan helped The Pilgrims to promotion to The Championship this season while the South Coast side have made an excellent start to the new campaign.

Plymouth are currently unbeaten having won two out of their three matches to date and are yet to concede a goal at the back.

"I think Brian Kerr should have a serious look at Graham Coughlan," said Williamson to the club's official website.

"I think he's another player we've got on the books who could make that step up. I've been very impressed with him since I've been at the club.

"He's certainly a good professional. He'll give attackers a hard time of it."
