PLYMOUTH ARGYLE returned to the top of the Third Division with an impressive 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers at The Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors got off to the best possible start, taking the lead after just two minutes through former Portsmouth winger Martin Phillips.

Lee Hodges doubled the lead in the 58th-minute for his third goal of the season to put Argyle in firm control.

Martin Cameron pulled one back for Rovers five minutes from time, but it was not enough to prevent The Pilgrims from taking all three points and going back to the top of the table.

The result leaves Rovers seven games still without a win and sitting 15th in the table after an encouraging start to the season.
