Only two members of the Cardiff board will attend Tuesday night's Championship match at Wigan in protest at their manager and owner, according to Sky Sports News HQ.

The ill-feeling relates to text messages sent by Latics manager Malky Mackay when he was still in charge at Cardiff and subsequent comments made by Wigan owner Dave Whelan.

Two of the Cardiff directors will go to the game tonight but will only sit with the fans.

Whelan was fined £50,000 for making comments about Jewish and Chinese people and also served a six-week suspension from all football-related activity.

The 78-year-old was, though, cleared by the Football Association disciplinary commission who said it was "satisfied" he was "not a racist" and did not intend to cause offence.

Mackay, sacked by the Bluebirds in December 2013, remains under investigation for the texts which included offensive remarks about Cardiff owner Vincent Tan.

Whelan defended Mackay after appointing him manager in November by saying: "I was impressed with his honesty, he came across and told me every single thing.

"I checked everything he said and I found it to be right, I don't think the FA will press any charges; if they do I think we will stand by him. What he's done is tiny really in real terms, we all get a name of some description and we don't take a blind bit of notice and that's what this category falls into I feel."

Cardiff, 17th in the Championship, travel for Tuesday night's game at the DW Stadium to Wigan who are nine points from the safety zone.
