Cardiff caretaker managers Danny Gabbidon and Scott Young are determined to excel in the aftermath of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure - starting with Saturday's trip to Derby.
Former Manchester United and Norway striker Solskjaer left Cardiff on Thursday having begun his bid to restore the Welsh club to the Premier League at the first time of asking with just eight points from the opening seven Championship games.
Controversial chairman Vincent Tan handed former Bluebirds defender Young and current player-coach Gabbidon temporary charge and they face a daunting opening test of their managerial skills at The IPro Stadium, where they face a Rams side unbeaten in their last five games.
Gabbidon said: "It's not something we can affect. We have to get on with it, take on the reins and get the lads as positive as possible, looking forward to a game of football.
"A few games into the season, we hadn't started how we would've liked. I think it's kind of a football decision. I know Ole and the chairman get on well so I think it's basically a football decision.
"We hadn't started the season as well as the chairman would have liked so basically this has happened."
Young said: "Our brief is to take the team on Saturday. We'll decide what we want to do and we'll see what happens after that.
"It's a great opportunity for both of us. We're both Cardiff lads through and through and it's a great honour to take the team."
