Wales defender Danny Gabbidon has signed a one-year contract with Cardiff City to become a player-coach at the club.

The 35-year-old centre-back was a free agent following his release by Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

It will be Gabbidon’s second spell with Cardiff after he spent five years with the club between 2000 and 2005, making 219 appearances before departing for West Ham.

As well as playing, he will now take on the role of defensive coach in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom staff.

Gabbidon's arrival at Cardiff City follows that of Gabon international defender Bruno Ecuele Manga from French club Lorient on a three-year deal.
