Championship news: Adam Le Fondre ready for Cardiff competition

Summer signing Adam Le Fondre is looking forward to competing for a place in Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's starting XI this season.

As well as capturing Le Fondre from Reading, the Bluebirds have also recruited Federico Macheda and Javi Guerra to add to the existing pool of strikers at the club, which includes Joe Mason and Kenwyne Jones.

Speaking at their summer training camp in Austria, Le Fondre told the club's official website: "I think the more the better, it brings the best out of you and the amount of goals we've got (altogether) can only be good for us.

"I'm a double figures player, I'm sure Nicky's a double figures player, Joe Mason is and Macheda was last season, with Javi Guerra doing the same in La Liga. Then you have Kenwyne Jones and Etien Velikonja as well.

"These weeks are great for team bonding. It's about getting in that routine that you'll be part of this squad for the season. That's what you've got to build, that spirit, especially in the Championship because it is going to be tested at times. We're going to need the resilience of the boys to get us through that."

The 27-year-old is also off the mark for Cardiff in pre-season, a relief to all players when joining a new club. Le Fondre added: "It's nice to score early and get that first goal out of the way.

"It's the league that obviously matters the most but as a striker, getting on a run early doors is pivotal in what you'll do earlier on in the season."
