Cardiff City's record signing Gary Medel is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle tear in their FA Cup defeat against Wigan.
After hobbling off at half time, the midfielder - who joined Cardiff from Sevilla for £11million - was replaced by Don Cowie during the Bluebirds' 2-1 exit at the hands of holders Wigan.
Medel was taken for a scan straight after the game and, after receiving his results, the 26-year-old posted a picture of himself in hospital on the social media site, Instagram.
Below his photo posts he wrote: "Well, this is football. A muscle tear that means staying out for several weeks.
"I hope to recover as quickly as possible."
Meanwhile, Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - whose team are second bottom in the Premier League with 12 games remaining - admitted the loss of the Chile international is a major blow.
"It is always annoying when you have to take a player off like that," he told The Sun.
Losing Medel adds further problems to Solskjaer's midfield ranks, with playmaker Jordan Mutch already out of action with a hamstring injury.
