Bluebirds boss targeting forward players to solve injury problems

Cardiff's injury problems mean manager Malky Mackay is desperately trying to bring in loan players. Craig Conway, Robert Earnshaw, Mark Hudson and Rudy Gestede all sustained injuries in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Leicester. "It was totally bizarre against Leicester, I've never known anything like it," Mackay told Wales Online. "The past couple of days we've been making an awful lot of phone calls in terms of players, but at the moment, unfortunately, we've come up with a blank. "So far there have been at least six we have made calls on, but it's just not suited the player or the club. They have not all been strikers, but certainly forward players. "It's not an exact science this loan market. It's a small market we are fishing in when it comes to who might fit the bill."

Natural talent

Meanwhile, Mackay is excited about the potential of Cardiff midfielder Joe Mason. The 20-year-old was acquired this summer from Plymouth and Mackay believes he will play a key part in the Bluebirds' future. He said: "He's one who quietly excites me when it comes to the future of Cardiff City. "He's got great natural talent. He's learning to train at this level and every day he's gaining power and strength. "He's been thrown into situations and adapted really well. "There's a lot of potential there. He really is one for the future, but he's a big part of the camp moving forward."
