Teenage striker set to be offered improved terms

Plymouth Argyle are ready to reward Joe Mason with a contract extension at Home Park. The promising striker was handed a one-year professional deal over the summer after graduating through the club's academy ranks. His development has continued to impress the Plymouth coaching staff this season and they are now ready to tie him down on a long-term agreement. Mason made the breakthrough into the senior set-up during Paul Sturrock's time in charge on the South Coast, making his first-team debut against Sheffield United in December, but has also caught the eye of Paul Mariner since he took the reins at the Championship outfit. "We're negotiating with Joe Mason to get him snapped up to the club and that's very close to being completed," Mariner told the club's official website. "Joe has got a very bright future. He's been training with us for a number of weeks. He made his debut for us and every time I look at him in training, he gets better and better. "He's training very hard and whatever we throw at him, he seems able to cope with it, and that's why he's with the first-team squad."
