Paul Parry has explained that he is retired from international football 'under the current management'.
The Cardiff City man revealed on Monday that he was no longer available for selection for Wales.
The announcement came just two days after Parry had been left out of the line-up for Wales' qualifier against Azerbaijan, and 48 hours before the crucial clash with Russia.
Parry admitted that he came to his conclusion after youngsters Ched Evans and Sam Vokes had been introduced as substitutes ahead of him in Saturday's 1-0 victory.
Manager John Toshack was stunned by the news and there has been criticism of Parry's timing.
However, Cardiff have now issued a statement on Parry's behalf making clear that it was anything but a rushed decision.
It would also appear that Parry has left the door open for a possible return under a different manager.
"Paul Parry wishes it to be known that his decision to withdraw from Welsh international football under the current management was a considered decision and was one that took into account his thoughts over a period of time, not just events of last weekend," read the statement on the club's official website.
"Paul is passionate about Welsh football and the success of the Welsh national team.
"Comments that have been made by others over the last few days have been both ill informed and emotive which is particularly disappointing."
