Defender Darren Purse is expected to commit his future to Cardiff this week.

The Bluebirds' skipper is keen to put pen to paper on his new contract that will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2008-2009 campaign.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale told the South Wales Echo: "Everything is verbally agreed and the formal contract is being written up and will be ready early this week.

"Darren is staying with Cardiff City."

Ridsdale has also dismissed rumours that Wigan Athletic have made a £1million bid for Purse.

City have also been linked with a move for former Spurs defender Chris Perry, who was released by West Brom.

"Neither are true," Ridsdale added.

"Wigan Athletic have not been in touch about Darren Purse and we have not made any sort of approach for Perry."

Cardiff are also close to signing a new goalkeeper while they continue to look to bring in a wide midfield player and a centre-forward.
