Gary Peters admits he is surprised he has fielded no enquiries for Shrewsbury Town youngster Dave Edwards.

The midfielder has been linked with a January move to Championship duo Cardiff City and Norwich City following a series of impressive displays this season.

Shrewsbury boss Peter was quick to dismiss the speculation, but concedes he could understand any interest in Edwards.

"I don't care what the papers say or where they make it up from, I've not had one phone call about Dave Edwards," Peters told the club's official website.

"David is doing very well for us and he's getting better and better, and I am surprised I haven't had any phone calls.

"But in this day and age people don't bother with the manager, they just have agents talk to each other and make up some stories for the newspapers.

"In the old days it used to be the manager talking to another manager and then you used to do the deal."

Back in September, Edwards was linked with Premiership pair Everton and Manchester United, and was reportedly due to spend time on trial at Old Trafford.
