Weston leaves Bluebirds

Rhys Weston has left Cardiff by mutual consent and is set to switch to Norway.

Rhys Weston has left Cardiff by mutual consent and is set to sign for Norwegian side Viking Stavanger.

Bluebirds boss Dave Jones has not played Weston in The Championship this season and has agreed with the 25-year-old that his contract should be terminated.

Weston has admitted that he is disappointed to leave Ninian Park in such circumstances, but feels it is for the best.

"It's been very unsettling knowing that you don't figure in the manager's plans," he said.

"There's no point hanging around and you have to look after your interests.

"I gave my best for Cardiff and it's a shame it ended the way it did. But I was loyal to the club and I even took a substantial pay cut last season when asked to help the club through a difficult time."

Weston will now travel to Scandinavia looking to secure a permanent deal with Viking Stavanger.

There are only eight more weeks remaining in the Norwegian league season.
