Ledley tipped for Wales

Lennie Lawrence has tipped Joe Ledley for John Toshack's Wales squad.

Cardiff City boss Lennie Lawrence has tipped rising star Joe Ledley to break into John Toshack's Wales squad.

The 18-year-old has been a major plus in what has been a largely disappointing season for The Bluebirds.

Unfortunately for Lawrence, Ledley has been ruled out of Cardiff's remaining Championship fixtures this season after fracturing a metatarsal foot bone in training.

Cardiff have suffered financial troubles this season but the club's boss is hoping to keep hold of Ledley - who has won three Wales Under-21 caps.

"You can never tell what's going to happen in football, but I'd hope Joe remains a main part of the Cardiff midfield for a number of years," Lawrence told the South Wales Echo.

"As for international level, obviously the injury rules him out of Wales' training camp in Spain next month.

"But a call-up to the senior Wales side can't be too far away for Joe.

"Perhaps he'll be considered for the possible friendly match in August," added Lawrence.
