Darren Bent was among the scorers again for Ipswich as they earned their second home victory of the season, beating Cardiff 3-1 at Portman Road.

The young striker found the net in midweek for the England Under-21 side and scored his second league goal of the season to give Joe Royle's side the lead after 21 minutes.

Summer signing Kevin Horlock was the architect, picking out Bent in the area with a precise pass and the 20-year-old steered a right-footed shot past Tony Warner.

Defender Jason de Vos, playing despite a foot injury, almost doubled Ipswich's lead but saw his close range header punched away by the Cardiff keeper.

Moments later in the 55th minute a mistake by Richard Naylor allowed Cardiff back into the game as the defender left his backpass short and Alan Lee ran clear to beat Kelvin Davis.

However, the visitors weren't back on level terms for long, as Ipswich crafted a fine second goal. Shefki Kuqi found Dean Bowditch, and his cutback was hammered in by Tommy Miller.

The home side then turned on the style once again four minutes from time as Bent raced to the byline and crossed for Ian Westlake to fire in the third with his left foot.
